Sinopsis

«BUILDING BRIDGES»:. El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en proponer medidas que permitan suavizar los efectos del Brexit sobre las relaciones económicas bilaterales entre España y el Reino Unido. Para ello, primero se muestran detalladamente la cuantía y composición de dichos intercambios. A continuación, se analiza cómo el Acuerdo de Comercio y Cooperación firmado afecta a cada uno de ellos. Finalmente, se realizan propuestas específicas para reducir las nuevas fricciones, adaptadas a cada tipo de relación bilateral y centradas en sus componentes de mayor peso. La viabilidad práctica de esta estrategia conciliadora dependerá de que la confianza mutua aumente. Esto no está garantizado, debido tanto a las potenciales fuentes de conflicto que el Acuerdo firmado contiene como a los intereses políticos del actual gobierno británico. The aim of this paper is to propose measures to soften the effects of Brexit on bilateral economic relations between Spain and the United Kingdom. To this end, we first show in detail the amount and composition of these exchanges. Next, we analyse how the already signed Trade and Cooperation Agreement affects each of them. Finally, specific proposals are made to reduce the new frictions, adapted to each type of bilateral relationship and focusing on its most important components. The practical viability of this conciliatory strategy will depend on increasing mutual trust. This is not guaranteed, given both the potential sources of conflict that the signed agreement contains and the political interests of the current British government.
